Celebrating a Lifetime Achievement Award for our Volunteer – Merton Partnership Civic Pride Awards 2024
We were delighted that one of our volunteers received an Eric Leppard Lifetime Achievement Award from Merton Partnership Civic Pride Awards 2024. Here is Mary’s volunteer journey over a fantastic 40 years:
Mary Brodrick is an exemplary lifetime volunteer, an inspiration to others sharing their skills, regardless of what stage of life.
Starting her adult life as a social worker, after taking a break for motherhood, she volunteered for 30 years within the legal justice system, as chairperson of the Inner London Family, supporting families experiencing domestic violence; then for 12 years as a volunteer in the psychiatric ward at St George’s Hospital.
At age 70 she retrained as a teacher of English, gaining her CELTA qualification; now volunteering for 6+ years as a Volunteer Tutor with Learn English Together in Merton, alongside also volunteer tutoring boys in a local comprehensive school – helping youth and adults from many countries integrate into the UK.
Age has never defined her and Mary fully deserves this lifetime achievement award, volunteering for over 40 years, giving thousands of hours of expertise to her local community.
