We were delighted that one of our learners, Heorhii Voina received a Best Learner Award on the 25th May 2023, on behalf of the Committee of South London Principals, hosted by Lord Tope CBE.
Heorhii arrived from Ukraine knowing no English at all and has progressed from Pre-Entry to E1. At aged 78, he is a role model to other learners demonstrating that it is never too late to learn a new language.
Merton Adult Learning who fund some of our classes selected our application for South London Principals and represented our charity at the event.
Heorhii’s teacher, Kateryna Sokol was also presented a Best Tutor award. Kateryna, also arrived from Ukraine in the Spring of 2022. A qualified English teacher, Kateryna was employed by LET for one year to help support Ukrainian learners. She has shown tremendous resilience and perseverance to build her life here in the UK – building on her qualifications after gaining a scholarship. She now has full time employment in a school supporting Ukrainian children and has moved on to her own flat with her family. We thank Kateryna for all she contributed to help LET support Ukrainian learners as a sessional teacher.
