Meet The Team
Our team are based at our Hub which is Vestry Hall, Mitcham. This is where we run the majority of our classes and our crèche. The team work Monday to Friday during office hours. Our teachers and our crèche are sessional based and attend according to our classes schedule.

Our team are based at our Hub which is Vestry Hall, Mitcham. This is where we run the majority of our classes and our crèche. The team work Monday to Friday during office hours and our classes run during term time. Day to day charity management is organised by the Director, two co-ordinators and part time administrators and volunteers.
Our Teachers
Our Sessional ESOL English teachers are qualified CELTA teachers. They are sessional based and attend according to our classes schedule. Our teachers include: Linda Ulrich, Mary Brodrick, Claire Wadie, Emma Cale, Claire Hayles, Catherine Abley, David Wilson and Chris Paul.
Crèche
Our Sessional Crèche is led by Lizzie McCarthy who is an experienced childcare practitioner and has a Level 3 Childcare qualification and three other qualified sessional crèche staff.
Our Volunteers
Our educational programmes are also supported by a number of volunteers including volunteers who lead Conversation Classes and Classroom Assistants. Some learners are also referred to Home Tutoring run by trained volunteers. We also have a volunteer learner involvement group who are involved in a range of activities.

Nicky Dalglish
Registration, Assessment and Volunteer Coordinator
Nicky joined Learn English in Merton (LEiM) in August 2022 as the project manager responsible for ESOL assessments. Nicky is also an experienced Volunteering Manager having worked for several years in this role at a medium-size charity in South-West London. Nicky now coordinates our volunteer programme and all new assessments and registrations for learners.
She has worked for the European Union as an interpreter and events organizer based in Madrid and Brussels. She also has 15 years’ experience working in the investment banking sector in both London and New York, working mainly in investment administration and corporate events.
Nicky has a BA (Hons) in European Languages (Spanish and French) and Economic Politics, and she also has a TEFL teaching qualification. Nicky works three days a week travelling across the Borough of Merton meeting ESOL learners for assessment.
Emma Cale
Education and Classes Coordinator
Emma coordinates all classes and liaises with teachers and learners as well as supporting with a range of tasks from web updates, publicity, supporting the co-ordination of volunteers and updating documents.
Emma is degree educated with a CELTA qualification, meaning she is also a qualified ESOL teacher. She also teaches a class in addition to her role here.
She works 10.5 hours a week for Learn English Together.

Our Trustees
Our Founder is Dr. Ruth Dawson.
The Chair is Anne Worlledge.
The Chair has been involved with the charity for over 10 years – previously as Treasurer.
Our Trustees offer a wide range of experience in management, tertiary education (including Adult Education, Further Education and university), business, law, accountancy and the voluntary sector.
We have a number of volunteer tutors who are also trustees and an ex-learner who previously worked in education in her own country.
The trustees are Mary Moody, Cathy Newbury, Pauline Rozario, Daniela Wilks and Andrew Hight.
Rozina Kader is a former Trustee who is still supporting the Board in an Advisory capacity.
